Caldwell sewer overflow caused by contractor error, samples submitted for testing

CALDWELL, Idaho — The city of Caldwell had to clean up a sanitary sewer overflow on Thursday, after a contractor cross-bored through a sewer line.

According to a news release, the city’s on-call operator received word of a sewer bubbling from a manhole around 6:30 p.m. near Denton Street and Ashton Avenue. Crews then went out to assess the area, later finding that a small amount of wastewater had entered a storm drain catch basin, flowing towards an irrigation ditch.

The discharge was roughly five to seven gallons, reports the city, and lasted about an hour. The area was secured for some time and thoroughly cleaned and disinfected by the city crews…
