Buffalo woman sentenced for stealing over $272K from East Side church

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Buffalo woman was sentenced on Thursday after she spent nearly seven years stealing thousands of dollars from a church on the east side, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office announced.

LaChria Bowden, 55, was sentenced to five years of probation for stealing around $272,205.

Bowden worked as an assistant to the treasurer of a church between November 2017 and September 2024 and wrote checks to herself for various sums, officials said. She used the money for living and personal expenses…
