New roundabout coming to Kentwood intersection this summer

KENTWOOD, MI – A Kentwood intersection will undergo a $4.58 million makeover this summer with the construction of a new traffic circle and the reconstruction of two deteriorating roads.

The new traffic circle will be built at the intersection of Shaffer Avenue and 36th Street, with construction starting in June. Shaffer Avenue will be fully reconstructed between 32nd Street and 44th Street, and 36th Street will be reconstructed from Shaffer Avenue to Broadmoor Avenue (M-37).

The Kentwood City Commission approved the $4.58 million road project on Tuesday, Jan. 20. The Michigan Department of Transportation will provide $1.5 million in federal funding for the project, so the city’s total share is around $3 million…
