KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Crews from Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) departed Kissimmee early Thursday morning to assist with power restoration efforts in Oxford, Georgia, as a massive winter storm system threatens widespread severe weather across the region.
The KUA crews left just after 6 a.m. as part of the utility’s long-standing mutual-aid agreement with utilities nationwide. In anticipation of power outages caused by heavy snow and ice from Winter Storm Fern, KUA deployed 12 linemen, a mechanic, and a convoy of utility vehicles to support restoration efforts.
The winter storm is expected to stretch more than 2,000 miles across the country and could impact more than 200 million people, prompting utilities to mobilize resources ahead of the storm’s arrival…
