Dallas, Texas – Ice could turn deadly tonight across a broad swath of the South as a powerful winter storm spreads freezing rain from Texas into the Tennessee Valley, creating dangerous travel conditions and a growing risk of widespread power outages.
According to the National Weather Service Aviation Weather Center, a long-duration icing event is underway across the Southern Plains and Lower Mississippi Valley, with freezing rain rates high enough in some areas to produce more than a half inch of ice.
