Woodstock Gears Up for Winter Storm, Officials Urge Caution and Preparedness Ahead of Saturday’s Expected Conditions

As the City of Woodstock braces for the upcoming winter onslaught, expected to manifest come Saturday afternoon, officials are taking no chances. In a statement obtained by the official city website, City Manager Jeff Moon declared an organized and swift response, highlighting that “Our teams have been preparing for a quick and effective response.” Residents are urged to plan ahead and avoid the roads once the bad weather hits, as icy roads and strong winds are poised to create treacherous conditions.

Police Chief Roland Castro speaks to the seriousness of the situation, advising that “Icy roads and downed trees create extremely dangerous conditions, even for experienced drivers.” The push is to keep locals off the streets to facilitate safer and more efficient operations for first responders and public works crews. Preparations are underway with Public Works strategically arranging materials, personnel, and equipment to tackle the icy roads and anticipated debris that could impede routes, particularly those designated as primary roads and emergency access points, according to the City of Woodstock website.

The response extends beyond clearing and salting roads. The Woodstock Fire Department is proactively adjusting operations to effectively deal with emergency calls during the storm. “Our firefighters are prepared to respond throughout the storm, but icy conditions can significantly impact response times,” said Fire Chief Shane Dobson.
