AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — Amarillo officially dropped to freezing early Friday morning, marking the beginning of a prolonged stretch of dangerous winter weather across the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles.
The temperature fell to 32 degrees at 7:05 a.m. at Rick Husband International Airport, starting the clock on how long the region will remain below freezing. Temperatures have continued to cool faster than anticipated, allowing precipitation to change more quickly from freezing drizzle to light snow.
