CENTER POINT, Ala. (WBRC) – For years, residents in the city of Center Point have called for a police department of their own, saying it could bring faster response times and a greater sense of security to their neighborhoods. Now, city leaders say the long-discussed idea may finally be gaining momentum, starting with what they describe as a deliberate and measured first step.
City officials say every major goal has to begin somewhere, and in Center Point, they believe that beginning starts at the top. The idea of a Center Point Police Department, long talked about but never realized, could soon move from vision to reality with the hiring of a police chief.
Council President Glenn Williams said the city is now financially positioned to take that initial step, noting, “We have money now to hire a chief.”…
