Suspect allegedly found with weapons, body armor at Columbus airport facing federal charges

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — A man arrested, who was found near the new John Glenn International Airport Terminal construction area with weapons and ammunition, is now facing federal charges.

According to the United States Attorney’s Office, Southern District of Ohio, 40-year-old William Griffith, who was charged with four felonies in Franklin County, is facing federal firearms charges after prior felony convictions were discovered from his past.

Griffith, of Delaware, was located near an administrative building, where the airport’s new terminal is under construction, after reports were received about a suspicious person roaming the area. Airport police took Griffith into custody, and said that weapons and ammunition were found in two locations, including his car and in the bathroom of a construction trailer.

The attorney’s office is now reporting that the weapons found included an AK-style rifle, shortened shotgun, and two handguns, with several rounds of ammunition. Griffith was also reportedly wearing body armor with ceramic plates and a ballistic helmet with night vision…
