Habitual felons, fraudster sentenced following Johnston County trials

SMITHFIELD — The Johnston County District Attorney’s Office called three cases for trial during the Jan. 12 session of Criminal Superior Court.

On Jan. 14, a jury found Patrick Jernigan guilty of obtaining property by false pretense. On Jan. 16, a jury found Marcus Currie guilty of fleeing to elude arrest, while a separate jury found Cortaz Lucas guilty of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both Currie and Lucas were also convicted as habitual felons…
