WLFM has a long history at Lawrence University. According to the WLFM website, the station started playing music in 1956 and ran up until 2021. WLFM was found on radio frequency 91.1 and was broadcast out of SOL Studios, which is located in the Music-Drama Center. For decades, WLFM was a constant source of alternative music for students studying at Lawrence, and for people living in the broader Fox Valley area. In 2006, there was a major change within WLFM when the radio frequency was sold off; and from 2006 onwards, WLFM operated as an internet station. Then, due to struggles with the Covid-19 pandemic, WLFM met its end in 2021, and the station was forced to shut down.
The project to put WLFM back on the air is still ongoing, and is being led by current SOL Studios President junior Reid DeThorne and current station manager and revival chair senior Myles Daly. Daly has been working to redesign the old WLFM website to make it a more user-friendly website for Lawrence students.
