Three victims identified in deadly collision on Highway 6

GRIMES COUNTY, Texas (KBTX) – Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers have released the identities of the three people killed in a two-vehicle crash on State Highway 6 near the Grimes and Waller County line on Wednesday afternoon.

DPS says the crash happened around 12:45 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 22, when a 2020 Freightliner 18-wheeler traveling northbound crossed the center median and struck a 2026 Hyundai Santa Cruz traveling southbound.

The victims were identified as:

  • Charles Ortega, 45, of Hempstead — driver of the Hyundai
  • Travis Morehead, 46, of Hempstead — front seat passenger
  • Ryan Morehead, 21, of Hempstead — backseat passenger

All three were pronounced deceased at the scene or shortly after being taken to St. Joseph Health Grimes Hospital…
