River Food Pantry Turns the Page

After nearly two decades of providing food and fostering meaningful connection, The River Food Pantry has begun a new chapter—moving into a brand-new, purpose-built facility designed to expand its impact while honoring its roots on Madison’s Northside.

“Originally serving a handful of households, The River has grown to become Dane County’s busiest food pantry serving over 4,000 people every week,” said Rhonda Adams, Executive Director of The River. “We have so much to celebrate this year. Not only does 2026 mark our 20th anniversary, but we finally have the space we’ve needed for so long to expand our mission. We invite all our Northside neighbors to come check it out, whether it’s for food or to volunteer.”

Founded in 2006, The River began with a simple but powerful vision: to offer food, hope and dignity to neighbors in need. What started in a converted warehouse quickly became far more than a food pantry. It grew into a welcoming community where everyone can access the food they need, volunteers form lasting relationships, and faith is lived out through service.
