Special Weather Alert for Alabama: Below Freezing & Black Ice Risk

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a Special Weather Statement about the frigid temperatures across the region.

To put the temperature plunge in perspective, the temperature at the Townsquare Media studios was 60 degrees at 7 a.m. By 7 p.m., it had fallen to 30 degrees.

“Temperatures will fall below freezing tonight across all of Central Alabama, with residual moisture on local roadways,” said the National Weather Service in Birmingham. This includes West Alabama as well.

  • This will lead to the possibility of hazardous travel in some areas.
  • Black ice may create slick spots on some local roads, bridges, and overpasses.
