Update: Extreme cold watch for Northwest Pa. for Monday and Tuesday – wind chills as low as -24

An updated extreme cold watch was issued by the National Weather Service on Sunday at 7:18 p.m. valid from Monday 7 p.m. until Tuesday 1 p.m. for Northern Erie and Southern Erie as well as Crawford County.

The weather service adds, “Dangerously cold wind chills as low as 24 degrees below zero possible.”

“The cold wind chills as low as 24 degrees below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes,” explains the weather service. “Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside. To prevent water pipes from freezing; wrap or drain or allow them to drip slowly. Keep pets indoors as much as possible.”
