Chester County Commissioners Declare Local Disaster Emergency

The Chester County Board of Commissioners has declared a Local Disaster Emergency as a result of a winter storm that is significantly impacting Chester County.

Chester County residents are reminded to:

  • Have multiple ways to get weather and emergency notifications.
  • Stay off roads during winter storms and drive only if it is absolutely necessary.
  • Report power outages to utility providers via phone or online.
  • Keep generators 20 feet away from windows, doors, or heating air intakes.
  • Never cook with outdoor appliances inside a home.
  • Monitor changing weather forecasts and weather conditions.
  • Limit your time outside. Wear layers of warm clothing and watch for signs of frostbite and hypothermia if you do have to go outside.
  • Reduce the risk of a heart attack and overexertion when shoveling or walking in the snow by taking breaks.

If you or someone you know is having difficulty finding shelter during the freezing temps, please call 2-1-1 for help. Get tips for staying safe in the extreme cold at chesco.org/cold or www.ready.pa.gov.
