ALABAMA — Dangerous winter conditions prompted by a strong winter storm system have forced numerous school closures, delays and changes in learning schedules across Alabama for Monday, January 26, 2026. State and local officials cited freezing temperatures, icy roads and hazardous travel as the reasons for the disruptions.
Across central Alabama, several systems announced closures or adjustments. Alabaster City Schools and Alexander City Schools will hold e-learning or virtual learning days instead of in-person classes, and some districts such as Anniston City Schools are delaying their start times.
