On August 26, 2025, Markeith Martin of 5711 Count Ln. New Orleans, LA, age 33, pled guilty to Attempted 2nd Degree Murder. Martin was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Chris Carter, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Cody Martin. This guilty plea stems from a 2022 Donaldsonville shooting.
On October 29, 2022, Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a Donaldsonville residence in reference to a shooting. The victim was located suffering from a gunshot wound to the head by neighbors who contacted authorities. Upon arrival, deputies located the victim, who was transported to an area hospital and treated for injuries sustained. Detectives were able to obtain video surveillance which showed a male subject leaving the residence in the victim’s vehicle shortly before deputies were dispatched. Neighboring parishes were contacted in effort to locate the victim’s vehicle. The vehicle was located in Jefferson Parish and the driver, Markeith Martin, was taken into custody by Jefferson Parsh Sheriff’s Deputies. During the investigation, detectives were able to identify Markeith Martin as the individual who left the victim’s residence prior to deputies being dispatched. Detectives were also able to obtain evidence identifying Martin as the shooter. Markeith Martin was ultimately transported to the Ascension Parish Jail where he was booked accordingly.
