ICE protest in Charleston ends with two arrests

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Several local organizations held a large protest in response to the recent deadly shooting in Minneapolis by a federal immigration officer.

Several local organizations gathered with the community at Marion Square on Sunday afternoon. Hundreds of people, many holding anti-ICE signs, met to voice their frustration, as nationwide unrest continues after an ICE officer shot and killed 37-year-old Alex Pretti on Saturday in Minneapolis.

Charleston Police say Sunday’s demonstration ended with no significant incidents; however, two people were arrested.

  • Joel Vincent Gratton, 42, of Minnesota, was charged with disorderly conduct and carrying a concealed knife.
  • Julia Tucker, 36, of Maryland, was charged with violation of the city’s mask ordinance.
