Record-Breaking Cold Temperatures Hit Grand Rapids
Grand Rapids set an impressive record low temperature, dropping to -19 degrees Saturday morning. This achievement is particularly notable because breaking winter temperature records is difficult given the historically cold periods Michigan experienced in the 1950s and 1970s. The record demonstrates the exceptional nature of the current cold snap affecting the region, with winter storm warnings issued for southwestern counties due to heavy lake effect snow until 1:00 p.m., and cold weather advisories blanketing a large part of Michigan.
