FIRST ALERT for black ice for Monday morning followed by extreme cold

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – Overcast overnight with a few mountain snow showers. Temperatures tumble into the upper teens and low 20s with west winds at 5-10 mph. With temperatures well below freezing tonight, any lingering moisture on the roads will freeze quickly, creating a few slick spots on the roads Monday.

FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY MONDAY: A few areas of patchy black ice are likely in the morning with temperatures hovering into the teens. Take is easy if you are travelling. Temperatures remain frigid throughout the day with highs only in the middle to upper 20s, but it will feel more like the single digits to teens through the day. Although there will be more sunshine, you’ll still need the layers!

FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY TUESDAY: The brutal cold continues, especially for Tuesday morning. We begin the day in the single digits with wind chill values near zero or below zero. Highs only reach the low 30s in the afternoon under a mostly clear sky.

COLD WEATHER ALERTS ACROSS EAST TN: We have a slew of watches and warnings throughout Monday and into Tuesday for extremely long wind chills at or below zero especially Monday and Tuesday morning.
