We the People: Iowa’s role in peregrine falcon recovery

CORALVILLE, Iowa (KCRG) – Two baby peregrine falcons found as eggs in downtown Cedar Rapids last spring hatched, marking another success in Iowa’s role in reviving populations of the once-endangered bird of prey.

The Iowa Raptor Project helped rescue the eggs, though rescuers never expected them to hatch. Two did survive.

“In Iowa, they would normally nest on cliff faces, especially along the Mississippi River but even in Linn County and the Palisades,” said David Conrads of the Iowa Raptor Project.
