From his stuck landings on lightning-fast tumbling passes and the subsequent thunderous roar of the crowd, Adam Lakomy didn’t look like a stranger to collegiate gymnastics meets — much less the high-stakes matchup of No. 1 Oklahoma and the reigning national champions, the No. 4 Wolverines. But in the freshman’s collegiate debut, his performances helped push the meet down to the wire.
Michigan’s loss was blunted by periodically high scores that offset its key mistakes and kept the team neck-and-neck with the Sooners throughout all six rotations. On the floor and vault, two of those much-needed scores could be attributed to one new gymnast: Lakomy.
“There’s a lot of pressure, for sure,” Lakomy said. “But I knew I worked hard in the gym for this and I earned my spot, so I just had to go out and do what I had to do.”…
