Questions arise after Baltimore City cuts watchdog’s access to some information

BALTIMORE (WBFF) — While most of Baltimore was preoccupied with the winter storm this weekend, the city’s watchdog was informed that access to Law Department documents had been severed.

In a news release over the weekend, the Baltimore City Office of Information and Technology announced a “violation” of attorney-client privilege. The remedy, according to the city, included cutting the Office of Inspector General’s access to the information.

“Earlier this week, a lawyer in the City’s Law Department discovered an unauthorized account had access to their files, including those protected by the confidential attorney-client and work-product privileges,” the news release explained. “As a result, a permissions audit was conducted, which discovered an account associated with the Inspector General’s Office had gained unapproved and unfettered access to the lawyer’s legally-protected confidential work product and communications.”…
