LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — A Limestone County Circuit Judge ordered a rock quarry to stop operations until it meets certain conditions to help eliminate the nuisance for the surrounding community in Belle Mina.
Several churches and community members in Belle Mina, a small unincorporated town, filed a lawsuit in December 2024 against Stoned LLC. and Grayson Carter and Son. The filing cites concerns about vibration from blasting, flooding, and several other issues. The plaintiffs also cite concerns for their health, arguing that dust from the quarry affects air quality.
Judge Matthew Huggins ordered on Friday that the Belle Mina Quarry stop operations until the following conditions are met to eliminate the nuisance for the quarry’s neighbors.
Huggins originally allowed construction of the quarry to go forward following the initial lawsuit filing, saying he would not issue a TRO or preliminary injunction until both the quarry opponents and their owners/operators could present evidence “in a more thorough evidentiary hearing.”…
