Baldwin County crews brave icy conditions to restore power in Mississippi

FOLEY, Ala. (NBC 15) — Baldwin County power company workers are helping restore electricity in hard hit Oxford, Mississippi. Two crews with Riviera Utilities hit the road Monday morning. More than an inch of ice blanketed the region, causing widespread power outages. Riviera Utilities has a mutual aid agreement with Oxford Utilities.

“There will be replacement of poles. They’ll be stringing new wire, helping out with whatever is needed,” said Tony Schachle Riviera Utilities Chief Operating Officer.

The 16 workers who left Monday morning could be deployed for up to two weeks, and they’ll be working long 12-16 hour shifts in very harsh conditions…
