A mountain lion was spotted on video in San Francisco overnight Sunday and may still be at large in the city, S.F. Animal Care and Control said on Monday.
The animal was seen in the footage near Lafayette Park in Pacific Heights by a member of the public who alerted Animal Care and Control. Park rangers, Animal Care and Control officers and staff from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife headed to the park, and on Monday afternoon rangers temporarily closed the park. After doing a sweep and finding no mountain lions, they reopened it with signs warning people about the mountain lion sighting and with park rangers standing letting people know in person, said Angela Yip, a spokesperson for Animal Care and Control.
“These animals often hide during the day,” said Yip. “There’s a good chance the animal has hunkered down in Lafayette Park.”
