Wali Bey, 42, Identified In Deadly Newark Police Shooting

The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office has released the names of the man and police officer involved in a fatal police shooting earlier this week in Newark. Officials identified the deceased as 42-year-old Wali Bey of Newark and the officer as Newark Police Officer Nashid Reynolds.

According to the Attorney General’s preliminary findings, the incident occurred around 1 p.m. on January 19 near Ross Street and Evergreen Avenue, where plainclothes and uniformed officers were conducting surveillance. Authorities said Officer Reynolds approached other officers and a group of detained civilians before firing his weapon, striking Bey and another man who were inside a vehicle.

Both victims were taken to University Hospital, where Bey was pronounced dead shortly before 2 p.m. The second civilian was treated for injuries and later released. No officers were physically injured, officials said…
