Jury begins deliberations after closing arguments in Duane Meyer murder trial

OREGON, Ill. (WTVO) — The case against Duane Meyer was handed to a jury on Monday afternoon, following sharply contrasting closing arguments from prosecutors and defense attorneys in a packed Ogle County courtroom.

Meyer is charged in the 2016 deaths of his ex-wife, Margaret “Maggie” Meyer, and their young son, Amos, who were found dead following a house fire at a home on Silverthorne Drive in Byron.

Prosecutors allege the fire was set intentionally after Maggie was strangled, while the defense argued the State failed to prove who was responsible or that the deaths were intentional…
