HOUSTON — The city of Houston wants to make it clear – immigration officials aren’t staking out warming centers that opened up for people to get out of the cold during the recent winter storm.
The city of Houston posted about it on X Monday and Houston Mayor John Whitmire addressed it during a news conference at a warming center later in the day.
“Let me emphasize that not only this shelter, each warming center, is open to every resident of Houston, Texas,” he said. “Today there were some disruptors, some mean-spirited people that had spread word that ICE was monitoring the centers. There’s absolutely zero evidence of that. So you’re welcome to the warming centers, no questions asked. It’s open for every resident of our community. No questions about immigration status. We just want to take care of everyone that’s in need of warming center or shelter.”…
