Funeral services held for Bakersfield trailblazer Irma Carson

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Funeral services were held Saturday for the Bakersfield trailblazer and leader, Irma Carson.

Services were called a “homegoing celebration” at St. John Missionary Baptist Church on Brundage Lane. Many turned out to honor Carson’s legacy as being the first Black female officer at the Bakersfield Police Department and the city’s first and only Black female councilmember.

“Her legacy is luminous and she will still be helping people from beyond, because she was a trailblazer and is a groundbreaker as a humanitarian,” Pastor Rev. Mercedes Tudy-Hamilton said on Friday.

Carson was buried at Greenlawn Funeral Home on Panama Lane…
