4-year hit-and-run case still has yet to make it to trial

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Fourteen-year-old Angel Berumen was riding his skateboard to school. That’s when a driver hit and killed him before taking off.

The family members of the alleged driver are accused of trying to conceal the car. But due to the slow moving Kern County Court system, Berumen’s case has yet to go to trial.

Jasmine Burleson, Berumen’s mother, has been fighting for justice since 2022. Now, as the anniversary of Angel’s death rears its head, she can’t help but keep fighting for the case to go to trial.
