BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Several whales at risk of being euthanized at Marineland in Niagara Falls, Ontario, could soon be coming to the United States after Canada’s Fisheries Minister conditionally approved the shuttered park’s proposal on Monday.
Joanne Thompson said she met with park officials and will give the final permits to export the 30 beluga whales and four dolphins once she gets more information from Marineland. For months, the park has been threatening to euthanize the whales if the government did not step in.
Records show that 20 whales have died at Marineland since 2019.
