An Extreme Cold Warning is in effect for Alleghany, Ashe, Grayson (Virginia) and Watauga Counties until noon.
Dangerously cold air has seeped into the Piedmont, bringing low temperatures into the single digits in many locations and wind chills to near 0 degrees. Though temperatures will remain below freezing until the early afternoon, we will have ample sunshine to get the thawing process underway later this morning. Highs are going to climb to the mid-30s this afternoon under sunny skies.
