Ice stops firetrucks in tracks while fighting blaze, EMS notes increased numbers over weekend

AUSTIN (KXAN) — As the Austin metro continues to see freezing temperatures, first responders are in the thick of it responding to calls and facing icy roads.

Lake Travis Fire Rescue’s trucks couldn’t get up an icy hill, even with snow chains, to fight an apartment fire near Lake Austin Monday.

The call came in at 9:30 a.m. The conditions at the complex in the 3500 block of S FM 620 forced crews to drag hoses hundreds of feet and stage engines in a parking lot next door…
