Hard morning freeze envelops south Louisiana with more cold on the way

After a 40 degree drop in temperature brought freezing temperatures to south Louisiana over the weekend, residents woke up Tuesday to more bone-chilling weather.

An extreme cold warning issued by the National Weather Service remains in effect for southern Louisiana until noon Tuesday. The NWS warns of dangerously cold wind chills around 15 degrees that could cause frostbite or hypothermia in people exposed to the elements.

Residents, especially in areas where the temperatures are coldest, including the northshore and Baton Rouge area, should protect their exposed pipes and plants and keep vulnerable pets inside, forecasters said…
