The Michigan High School Athletic Association representative council approved has an expansion of Name, Image and Likeness activities, according to a press release on Tuesday. This decision allows for student-athletes at MHSAA-member schools to benefit from NIL opportunities.
Per the release, the MHSAA has previously approved NIL opportunities under the category of personal branding activities. This allowed for student-athletes to conduct camps, clinics and private lessons. Tuesday’s decision expands options for student-athletes to benefit, as long as activities are individual opportunities for individual students.
The council had debated the possibility of these rule changes since the Michigan Legislature proposed amending state law to allow for student-athletes’ use of NIL in 2023, and also after closely monitoring similar developments in surrounding states…
