CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A Charlotte man who had previously been convicted of mail theft is facing new charges after hiding in Mexico, according to Russ Ferguson, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina.
Erik Magana, 41, is now charged with bank fraud and two counts of receipt and possession of stolen mail after authorities say he started stealing large quantities of mail again from mailboxes in Mecklenburg, Union, and Gaston Counties and beyond.
This allegedly started in 2024 after Magana was released from prison and had completed his court supervision. Officials say he stole business and personal checks, credit cards, tax forms, financial statements, packages and other documents with victims’ personal information…
