Marion woman sues HCA Florida for misdiagnosed ectopic pregnancy that ruptured, required emergency surgery

A Marion County woman has filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against two doctors, a medical group, and a hospital system, alleging that their failure to properly diagnose and treat an ectopic pregnancy resulted in a rupture and emergency surgery.

Morgan Browne filed the complaint on Jan. 14 in the Fifth Judicial Circuit Court of Marion County against Dr. Manuel DelCharco, Jr., Dr. Donna Boucher, M. DelCharco, Jr., M.D., L.L.C., Women’s Group of North Florida LLC, HCA Florida North Florida Hospital, and the University of Central Florida Board of Trustees.

According to the complaint, Browne visited Dr. DelCharco in Marion County on Oct. 2, 2023, for a pregnancy evaluation. An ultrasound conducted the following day showed “no intrauterine pregnancy” and was noted as concerning for ectopic pregnancy, which occurs when a fertilized egg implants and grows outside the main cavity of the uterus…
