Officials: Odor leak is migrating from Greenville Co. to Spartanburg Co.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – Spartanburg County Emergency Management is reporting a mercaptan odorant leak heading towards the county.

Officials said the leak is in Simpsonville and it migrating northward into Spartanburg County and the city.

“An odorant called mercaptan is injected into natural gas, giving it the distinctive smell of rotten eggs,” Piedmont Natural Gas said. “The odor makes natural gas easy to detect and can alert the public of a natural gas leak to help avoid a potentially dangerous situation.”…
