Multiple Crashes and Ice Prompt Closure of I-70 and I-465 in Indianapolis, Authorities Advise Caution

On Tuesday morning, Indiana State Police shut down westbound I-70 at I-465 after multiple crashes and icy conditions, according to FOX59. Traffic was rerouted onto I-465. Roads across central Indiana remained hazardous following a historic winter storm, and Marion County was still under an orange travel watch, urging residents to limit travel to essential trips.

Further exacerbating the travel tumult, the Indiana Department of Transportation also had to close sections of I-465 southbound due to a collision involving an ISP officer’s vehicle, although no injuries were reported. As per WTHR, these disruptions follow a rigorous few days for responders, with ISP Sgt. John Perrine stated that crews have handled 264 crashes, 158 slide-offs, and 529 motorist assists since Saturday afternoon.

To show how slick the roads were, Sgt. Perrine shared a video of himself slipping and falling on I-70. He jokingly captioned it, “Technique was on point, just barely missed the dismount.” and said he was not hurt but warned drivers to use caution. “I’m okay, but seriously the roads are slick,” he told WRTV…
