Lansing City Council discusses making church shelter permanent

LANSING, (Mich.) WLNS –The Lansing City Council is expected to make a decision soon on whether or not the Union Missionary Baptist Church, which has been operating as a temporary shelter for homeless families, will be allowed to operate as a permanent shelter.

Monday’s meeting agenda addressed how to get people off the streets, and the future status of the church. During public comment, many residents expressed that they feel like more needs to be done, and church leaders say they can help.

Some residents took their time at the meeting to criticize the city, with one resident saying that Lansing isn’t doing enough for its homeless…
