Pensacola Waterfront Rescue Mission opens doors to all at no cost during cold snap

PENSACOLA, Fla. (WKRG) — Pensacola’s Waterfront Rescue Mission is treating this weather as they would an emergency disaster as the temperatures dip below 40 degrees.

For the next seven days, the Mission suspended normal operations and shifted to their ‘Emergency Cold Weather Plan,’ hoping to prevent folks from getting frostbite or hypothermia.

“We don’t want anyone to be left out in the cold, so we are pulling out all the stops to make sure people are safe,” Waterfront Rescue Mission Vice President of Ministry Jason Grizzard said.

This week, the Mission has several new procedures. First, extended check-in hours so guests can arrive at any time, day or night, and be welcomed. Second, the overnight shelter will not be limited by bed or mat availability. Third, the Mission will be of no cost to guests. Fourth, guests are not required to leave during the day and may stay inside. Finally, the Mission welcomes all guests, including families with children…
