Des Moines City Council approves plan to raze Moulton Elementary

DES MOINES, Iowa — After 110 years, a piece of Des Moines history will soon be no more.

On Monday night, the Des Moines City Council approved a request to demolish Moulton Elementary, located at 1541 8th Street. The location will eventually be home to Moulton Academy, a new visual and performing arts school that is part of Des Moines Public Schools’ Reimagining Education plan.

Portions of the building date back to 1914, and Moulton originally served as North High School. It became an elementary school in 1962.
