Brief Cooldown Saturday

LUBBOCK, TX (KLBK) – KLBK Chief Meteorologist Jacob Riley has your Tuesday evening weather update for January 27, 2026.

Tonight: Partly cloudy. Patchy freezing fog. Low of 13°. Winds NW 5-10 MPH.Tomorrow: Partly cloudy. High of 52°. Winds NW→SW 12-18 MPH.

TONIGHT:

Another bitter cold night is in store for eastern New Mexico and western Texas, especially in locations that still have snow on the ground! A partly cloudy sky is expected across the region, with winds out of the northwest sustained at 5-10 MPH. Due to the snow melt throughout the day on Tuesday, areas of patchy dense freezing fog will be possible. This will lead to additional black ice on elevated surfaces. Additionally, all snow that melted on Tuesday will refreeze by sunrise on Wednesday, making for an icy morning across the region.

WEDNESDAY:

Another day of melting is expected on Wednesday as high temperatures climb into the 40s and 50s! Most of the rest of the snow cover should melt throughout the day. Areas that saw over 4″ from our weekend winter storms will still likely have some snow on the ground by sunset. We will keep a partly cloudy sky across eastern New Mexico and western Texas, with winds shifting from the northwest to the southwest throughout the day. Sustained speeds of 12-18 MPH are expected. Any moisture left on area roadways Wednesday night will refreeze! Lows will settle into the low 20s to low 30s by sunrise on Thursday. Be sure to watch out for areas of black ice through your Thursday morning commute.

Morning commutes will be icy once again Thursday morning. Conditions should be much improved by Friday morning. Daytime highs will remain in the 40s and 50s with morning lows in the 10s and 20s. A mostly clear to partly cloudy sky will remain around the region. Winds will be sustained at 10-20 MPH, shifting from the north-northwest on Thursday to the south-southwest on Friday. As our next cold front moves in Friday night into Saturday morning, winds will shift back to the northeast as colder air moves in. Lows will bottom out in the low 10s to mid 20s by sunrise on Saturday. A few snow flurries will be possible during that time frame, too.

Temperatures will tumble back below average on Saturday, with highs only warming into the 20s and 30s behind a brief arctic front. As of now, nothing too significant is likely. We will see a partly cloudy to mostly cleat sky through Monday, with clouds increasing by Tuesday.
