Salem settles $550K workers’ comp claim with firefighter’s widow

Salem City Council authorized the city to enter into a Claim Disposition Agreement to resolve the workers’ compensation claim of $550,000 for a former Salem firefighter who died in 2019 from cancer.

The case involves the widow of Maurice “Mo” Stadeli.

Stadeli worked as a firefighter paramedic for Salem for 28 years. He was diagnosed with tonsillar cancer in 2018, underwent treatment and died six months later. The city first fought in court to deny workers’ compensation claims and line-of-duty benefits to his widow, Tina Stadeli, claiming it wasn’t clear that firefighting caused his cancer…
