Foley cracks down on roadside clutter, enforcing sign ordinance

FOLEY, Ala. (WKRG) — You might notice when you drive down Highway 59 through Foley, roadside business signs are few and far between. That’s because the city of Foley is working to reduce the visual clutter along the roads.

“We want to support the businesses, but we also want our city to have a certain look,” Foley Mayor Ralph Hellmich said.

A sign ordinance has been in place for years, but the mayor said the city hasn’t fully enforced it. However, this year the city is cracking down.

“Our city is trying to look the best we can be,” Hellmich said. “We also want to work with businesses because we’re not trying to put anybody out of business.”…
