ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Frigid temperatures can drain a car battery.
According to AAA, when the air temperature is 32 degrees, a battery’s starting power drops 35%. At 0 degrees, the starting power drops 60%.

Joshua Gallimore, general manager at the Advanced Auto on Brambleton Avenue in Roanoke says freezing temperatures create more work for the battery.
“The cold weather makes everything tighter in the vehicle,” he said. “Your oil gets thicker, it makes it harder for the starter to turn the motor over which requires more power. If your battery is on the edge, it’s going to show it.”…
