10-year sentence for driver who struck, killed Zack Bol

LUBBOCK, Texas— 45-year-old Julian Mercado was sentenced to 10 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) for Failing to Stop and Render aid. This charge stemmed from a crash in 2024 that resulted in the death of 18-year-old Zack Bol and left 18-year-old Benjamin Brown with moderate injuries.

In November 2024, EverythingLubbock.com reported that Mercado was driving an unknown vehicle traveling northeast in the 4000 block of Idalou Access Road. The vehicle struck Bol and Brown, who were walking back from a store, and then fled the scene.
