Popular San Antonio spot seeks community support amid boycott efforts

A popular San Antonio venue is speaking up again after former employees announced a boycott of the local business due to claims of unpaid wages. But this time, the venue is asking for understanding and community support — not for the business, but “for the artists” of the Alamo City.

With February’s First Friday art walk event coming up at Brick at Blue Star, the venue’s general manager took a moment to address San Antonians. In an Instagram post by Brick signed by Mateo, likely referring to Brick’s general manager, Mateo Hernandez, the business reminded the community that its First Friday event is run by local artists “day and night, from beginning to end.”

“First Friday is upon us, every month, once again. This night is not for Brick, it’s for the artists, the ones who actually make this place what it was and what it is,” the post reads. “We want to assure everyone who attends and is a part of First Fridays that this is an artist run event.
